Water Quality Notice – September 2026 Lead Testing Results
October 9, 2026
The City of Frost is providing an important update regarding routine lead and copper testing conducted in September 2026.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) notified the City that our water system's testing results exceeded the regulatory action level for lead.
Understanding the Results
As part of routine water quality monitoring, samples are collected from faucets inside homes and other structures at designated locations throughout the water system. The water remains unused for at least six hours before samples are collected and submitted to a laboratory for analysis.
Ten locations were sampled during this testing period.
-
Eight samples were below the laboratory's reporting limit for lead.
-
Two samples exceeded the lead action level.
-
The City's calculated 90th-percentile lead result was 16 parts per billion (ppb), compared with the regulatory action level of 15 ppb.
This means the City exceeded the regulatory action level by 1 part per billion. One individual sampling location had a higher reading of 79 ppb.
These results do not mean every home or business in Frost has elevated lead levels. However, an action-level exceedance requires public notification, additional evaluation, and follow-up action.
What Residents Should Know
Lead may enter drinking water through certain plumbing materials, service lines, and fixtures.
Exposure to lead can cause serious health effects, particularly for infants, young children, and pregnant women.
Residents should review the official TCEQ notice for recommended precautions. These include using cold water for drinking and cooking, considering a filter certified to remove lead, cleaning faucet aerators, and flushing water that has been sitting in household plumbing.
Boiling water does not remove lead.
What Is the City Doing?
The City is coordinating with TCEQ and our water system operator to determine what additional testing, evaluation, and corrective measures may be required.
We have also notified Frost ISD directly and will continue providing updates as additional information becomes available.
